Charlie Puth – Change Ft James Taylor
“Why can’t we just get along?”
Charlie Puth has enlisted the expertise of Rock and Roll Hall of Famer James Taylor for his new single “Change,” which dropped today (March 26).
The soft, folksy ambience of the track is reminiscent of Taylor’s signature sound, made famous in the ’70s — however, the lyrics are very much 2018.
“What a waste it would be to deny somebody/ of a chance to be theirselves,” Taylor serenades in the socially progressive track.
The verses gently criticize those who look down on their peers for their differences, stating that “the day we know we’re all the same,” a positive change in humanity can then occur.
The chorus begs, “Why can’t we just get along?” and explores the pitfalls of a society that cannot love one another openly.
“Change” is the latest single from Puth’s forthcoming collaboration-filled second album, Voicenotes.
Taylor made his first No. 1 Billboard 200 entry in 2015 with his 17th studio album, Before This World — 45 years after his breakthrough album Sweet Baby James was released in 1970.
